4 Vietnam Airlines flight attendants released after being caught transporting drugs
Four flight attendants of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines who were taken into custody last week for transporting 11.4 kilograms of ecstasy and meth from France to Vietnam were released on Wednesday afternoon. According to Ho Chi Minh City investigators, there is no ground to file criminal charges against them. However, the case is still under investigation. Police said the flight attendants -- Vo Tu Quynh, Tran Thi Thu Ngan, Nguyen Thanh Thuy, and Dang Phuong Van -- did not know that they were carrying drugs. Last Thursday, customs officials at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City detected 8.4 kilograms of grey tablets and 3.080 kilograms of white powder, which are ecstasy and methamphetamine, in the four flight attendants’ carry-on luggage. In February, raw sugar futures hovered at the 6-year high of roughly US 22 cents a pound set on February 27. Specifically, February's average raw sugar price was US 20.23 cents a pound, compared to US 18.87 cents per pound in January and US 18.93 cents in December 2022. According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, the average sugar price was US 18.5 cents per pound during the first ten months of 2022. The Rome-based agency forecast that by 2029, the average sugar price will reach US 21.3 cents but the fact is that the price exceeded the figure in January. They were forced to masquerade as bank employees and other Indonesian authorities and make scam calls back to Indonesia to swindle money from people, the Indonesians said. When police raided the building in question, the Malaysians had already escaped, but officers later found six of them renting a room at the Tan Son Nhat hotel in Tan Binh District and arrested them. (Photo: VNA) Bac Lieu (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu is determined to join the entire Vietnam in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and sustainably developing the fisheries sector for the sake of people and the country, Chairman of its People’s Committee Pham Van Thieu has said. With an annual catch of about 120,000 tonnes of seafood, Bac Lieu identifies fisheries as a key sector. Given this, it has been ramping up the fight against IUU fishing and obtained many encouraging results. Notably, it hasn’t recorded any fishing vessels infringing foreign waters since 2022. The report, released on March 20 to coincide with the International Day of Happiness, is published by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network. 30 Indonesians fall victim to Malaysia human trafficking ring in Vietnam

Upon arriving in Ho Chi Minh City, they were locked inside a building on 455 Binh Quoi street in Binh Thanh district where they were forced to hand in passports and phones and pretend to be bank employees and other Indonesian authorities making scam calls back to Indonesia in order to swindle money from people. Hearing about the news, the Ho Chi Minh City police raided the building, but all of the Malaysian suspects thought to be involved in the scam had fled.
