Minh and Mushikiwabo discussed the Francophone community’s prioritised activities in the near future, measures to boost ties between Vietnam and French-speaking countries, preparations for the 50th anniversary of the OIF and the 18th Summit of the Francophonie in Tunis, the capital city of Tunisia. Vietnam to reduce 35% HCFCs consumption by 2024

Vietnam plans to reduce 35 per cent of its Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) consumption by 2024 in an attempt to protect the ozone layer. HCFCs are used in several industries, including refrigeration and air conditioning, fire extinguishers, foams, and solvents. Under the plan, about 80 companies will receive support to change technologies in order to cut down the usage of 1,000 tonnes of HCFC-22 (a refrigerant widely used in the seafood processing industry) by 2024. Vietnam’s shrimp industry to become key economic sector

(Source: VNA) The plan hopes to improve the quality, efficiency of production and competitiveness of Vietnamese shrimp products, in a bid to benefit farmers, businesses and the country’s economy. According to the action plan, the domestic shrimp industry is expected to gain US$5.5 billion in export value and record an annual average growth of 10.79% in 2017-20, including US$4.5 billion from brackish water shrimp exports.  The total area rearing brackish water shrimp is estimated to reach 710,000ha, with total output of 850,000 tonnes of shrimp during 2017-20, and expand to 750,000ha and 1.1 million tonnes of output in the period from 2020-25. Developing raw material areas essential for Vietnam’s agricultural growth

Despite having gained access to nearly 200 countries and territories with an annual turnover of US$40 billion, Vietnam still struggled to sustainably expand and develop markets for its agricultural commodities in harsh conditions. Vietnam, France forge defence ties

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Phuong Nam, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) and Rear Admiral Denis Bertrand, Joint Commander Armed Forces in French Polynesia and Commander of the French Polynesian and Pacific Maritime Zones, agreed that bilateral defence ties have been enhanced in training, military medicine, peacekeeping missions and defence industry.
