Long Bien Bridge reproduced at Vietnam International Fashion Week

In the first Vietnam International Fashion Week (VIFW) held in 2014, the image of Vietnam’s Non La (conical hat) on the stage left good impression on spectators. That was the first international fashion event in Vietnam, marking a milestone for Vietnam’s fashion industry. In VIFW 2015, spectators were surprised at an image that seemed not related to fashion – village bamboo. The symbol is closely associated with the lives of farmers in Vietnam. The village bamboo is reproduced in a creative and lively way. Many spectators still can’t forget the stage in VIFW 2016. Images of lotus were delicately arranged on the stage. In Fall/Winter 2016, the Vietnam International Fashion Week took place in Hanoi for the first time. The stage was associated with the image of O Quan Chuong (Quan Chuong Gate) - the oldest historic gate in Hanoi. Most recently, the high buildings were reproduced on the stage at VIFW Spring/Summer 2017, showing a dynamic and modern Ho Chi Minh City, opening the doors to integrate into the world. Obviously, the stage of VIFW is an important factor to draw attention of spectators. The organizing board told the October 17 press conference that the subject of VIFW 2017 Fall/Winter 2017 was inspired by the Long Bien Bridge. With less than 24 hours until the opening of the VIFW Fall/Winter 2017, the official image of Long Bien Bridge on the stage was announced. Over the past 100 years, Long Bien Bridge has witnessed all historical events that made the capital city like it is today. This the second time VIFW will be held in Hanoi, the image of Long Bien Bridge is expected to satisfy all people who love fashion and beauty. The majestic image of Long Bien Bridge. Bao Loc, a hidden gem of Lam Dong Province

While Lam Dong Province is best known for Da Lat City, 110km to the south of Da Lat is the town of Bao Loc, a town far quieter but with its own charm and sights to discover. Together with its forests and regional flora and fauna, Lam Dong offers distinctive scenery with many picturesque lakes, waterfalls, hills and pine forests. Tourists also highly appreciate its temperate climate, beautiful sights and the abundance of highland flowers and vegetables. Bao Loc is an ideal location for a trip to immerse oneself in pristine nature, without being overcrowded by tourists. Farmers picking leaves on Tam Chau Tea Hill on a beautiful day. There’s even an annual Bao Loc tea and mulberry festival just to celebrate the local products. Linh Quy Phap An Pagoda is a must-visit destination when visiting Bao Loc. Endearingly called ‘Heaven’s Gate', the beautiful sight will make visitors feel as if they are lost in paradise. The pagoda site is a blend of Vietnamese and Japanese architecture with Japanese torii gates on each side, with the backdrop of forest, tea plantations, misty mountains and clouds at high altitude. During sunrise, it has a magical vibe with a layer of dense fog covering the mountain range. Linh Quy Phap An's incredible view. Photo happydaytravel.com Dambri Waterfalls are the highest waterfalls in the Central Highlands at 57m in height. The stream amazes tourists at first sight with the pure and cool water squeezing through thousands of rocks in diverse sizes and shapes. The site is totally primitive with dense, wild trees lining its banks. Less known but equally worth a visit is the seasonal pink algae lake …

Escaping poverty via breed initiative

The project’s free-of-charge breeds bring more profits for families Despite the piercing cold winter weather, 43-year-old Trinh Van Hoan, wakes up early to walk to his family’s two-hectare pond, at which he will continue to raise black tiger shrimp and tilapias. In recent weeks he has been renovating the pond in order to begin a new season for the next two months. “I am dredging the pond, sanitising it, and strengthening the pond’s banks before pumping clean water into it and raising new shrimp and tilapias,” Hoan told VIR. Living in coastal Nga Tan commune, located in Nga Son district of Thanh Hoa, Hoan has been raising shrimp for five years – a trade that has only helped his four-member family ensure sufficient livelihoods, without creating any major savings. This has made it difficult for him to expand the trade and purchase more assets for his family. However, in July last year Hoan was supported 94,000 breeding black tiger shrimp and 1,890 tilapias breeds by a project to improve the resilience of coastal communities to climate change in Vietnam, funded jointly by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Vietnamese government, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In addition, at that time Hoan’s family also purchased 40,500 breeding shrimp and 810 breeding tilapias of the type from the market. Altogether he raised 135,000 shrimp and 2,700 tilapias. Last October, about 1.65 tonnes of shrimp and 900kg of tilapias were caught and sold to the market at an average price of VND300,000 ($13) and VND45,000 ($1.95) per kg, respectively, with total revenues of about VND495 million ($21,500) from the shrimp and VND40.5 million ($1,760) from the tilapias. “This was the highest-ever revenue that we have earned so far,” Hoan said. However, what has been more valuable is that in addition to receiving some feed for initial production, Hoan has been equipped with special knowledge from the project’s professional technical training course offering …
