Vietnam’s dialysis sector commended in Southeast Asia

VDA Chairman Dr Nguyen Huu Dung said Vietnam's dialysis industry is highly appreciated in Southeast Asia and has made strong progress in catching up with the world-class level, most notably with techniques such as cyclic dialysis, online hemodiafiltration and blood adsorption. However, with many kidney failure patients needing dialysis, a shortage of dialysis equipment has occurred. He said that patients have to undergo dialysis on shifts, even at night. Fruit, vegetable exports top $4B
Vinafruit, or the Vietnam Fruits and Vegetable Association, said durian, banana and dragon fruit were the main contributors to the increase, with durian in the lead after climbing into the billion-dollar export club. China has been by far the biggest importer, buying $2.3 billion worth of fruits and vegetables from Vietnam in the first eight months of the year, a 134% increase year-on-year and accounting for a 64% share. The next three biggest importers have been the U.S. ($168 million, 6% down in the same period), South Korea ($148 million, up 18%), and Japan ($123 million, up 6%). Durian exports increased 20-fold this year. Unlike the Thai and Philippine varieties, Vietnamese durian can be harvested even in the so-called off-season, and their exports fetch higher prices as a result. China also bought bananas and jackfruit from Vietnam at higher prices and is considering buying fresh coconuts through official quotas. Vietnam’s Bac Lieu to host country’s first-ever salt festival next year
Vietnam’s first-ever salt festival will be held in Bac Lieu Province, southern Vietnam in April next year and is expected to contribute to the development of the salt-making craft in the province and the country as a whole. The event will help promote local salt products and call on enterprises and organizations to make investments in the production, processing, and trade of salt. It will also create motivation for locally-made salt to compete with salt imports in the domestic market. At a working session with Bac Lieu authorities on Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam said April is an ideal time to hold the festival as it marks the beginning of the salt harvesting season.
