Vietnam outclassed in-form Thailand 2-1 in the first-leg match of the Southeast Asian Football Championship (AFF) Suzuki Cup final in Bangkok on December 24, giving them a big advantage in their return clash against the Thai in Hanoi. Midfielder Vu Phong slammed Vietnam into an early lead with a header after receiving a perfect pass from his teammate Tan Tai in the 39th minute. Vietnam have taken the AFF Suzuki Cup ‘08 with a 3-2 aggregate win over Thailand after holding their visitors to a 1-1 draw in the second leg match at My Dinh national stadium in Hanoi on December 28. Teerasil Dangda put Thailand ahead with a pinpoint header in the first half, but Le Cong Vinh equalised for Vietnam in extra time. Hosts Vietnam played well in the first half, pegging the Thai in their own half, but it was the Thai who scored first.
