Children should be key consideration in ESG assessments: UNICEF Vietnam expert
Business practices are not sustainable if they do not take account of their impact on children, said a UNICEF Vietnam representative at a child rights and business forum held on Tuesday in Hanoi. The forum, co-held by UNICEF Vietnam and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), underlined the need for responsible business practices that respect child rights and prevent adverse human rights impacts. Speaking at the event, Rana Flowers, representative of UNICEF in Vietnam, said that children, whom she described as the present and the future, should be a key consideration in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) assessments. (Photo: vov.vn) Hanoi (VNA) – The Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association (VIFA) held an event in Hanoi on May 31 to introduce Indonesia ’s traditional fabric dyeing technique called Batik. Considered one of the cultural symbols of Indonesia, Batik is a traditional wax-resist dyeing and printing technique on fabric. Several historical records trace the origin of Batik back to the Srivijaya empire in Indonesia through trade activities with the Tang Dynasty of China. On October 2, 2009, Batik was recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and Indonesia also designated the day as National Batik Day . Hanoi welcomes over 1.7 million int’l visitors in January-May
The tourism sector in Hanoi wrapped up the first five months of 2023 on an upbeat note, with the number of international visitors to the Vietnamese capital city during the period surpassing 1.7 million, the municipal tourism authority said on Thursday. Hanoi served an estimated 10 million tourists from January to May, improving nearly 54 percent over the same period last year. Of the total tourist arrivals, the volume of domestic visitors reached 8.4 million and that of international travelers accounted for the rest. The capital city saw tourism revenue in the five-month period from January to May surge VND37 trillion (US$1.5 billion), or 92.4 percent, against the same period last year. In May alone, over two million tourists visited the city, including some 316,300 international guests and around 1.7 million domestic visitors. The city pocketed an estimated VND7.26 trillion ($310 million) in tourism revenue last month.
