The race among Vietnamese social networks is starting to become exciting but much needs to be done for them to develop. It was at 8am on September 21 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi and hundreds of people were queuing up to check-in for the launch ceremony of Astra, a Vietnamese tourism social network. Astra also signed investment cooperation deals with 22 venture investors at the ceremony, with capital of over $10,000 for each deal. Most notable was the $1 million investment from Mr. Pham Thanh Hung, Chairman of CenGroup. Astra expects to capture 5 per cent of the global online travel market in the next five years. Almost a third of more than 4,100 enterprises surveyed in Vietnam do business on social networks, a slight decrease from the previous year. Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) conducted the survey on Vietnamese e-commerce activities from September to November last year. In a bid to create a healthy networking atmosphere in the country, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has completed a code of conduct on social networks for internet service providers and users, said Minister Nguyen Manh Hung. The latest report issued by social media marketing firm We are Social showed that roughly 55 million Vietnamese people (57 percent) use social media. In June 2019, Hahalolo, a social network believed to be the first developed by Vietnamese, integrates social network, online tourism services and e-commerce.
