The article by Sazali Abdul Aziz reported that after two days of track and field competitions at the SEA Games 31 in Hanoi, Vietnam topped the medal table. For nearly two decades following Thailand, Vietnam finally usurped their rivals to emerge as the top nation in athletics in the 2017 Games in Malaysia. They followed it up with another table-topping show two years later in the Philippines, and are looking to make it three in a row. (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam ese Sepak Takraw players were awarded a silver and a bronze at the ongoing SEA Games 31 during a ceremony held in Hanoi on May 15. The ceremony saw the presence of Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon and President of the Asian Sepak Takraw Federation Abdul Halim Abdul Kader. After three days of competition, Vietnam earned a bronze in the men’s team regu, following Thailand in the first place and Malaysia in the second. In the women’s event, the Vietnamese players won against Malaysia and Laos but suffered a loss to Thailand, finishing the tournament in second place. There were 10 tanding (combat) categories held at the North Từ Liêm District Gymnasium. Vietnamese athletes secured five golds in six finals that they had representatives in. Quàng Thị Thu Nghĩa cried when she was announced champion in the pencak silat in Hà Nội in the morning. Nghĩa defeated Malaysian Siti Rahmah Binti Mohamed Nasir to win the women's U75kg category for her first time at the Games, although she has been practising the martial art for 10 years. Nghĩa, 23, has championed all competition levels, but this is the first time she has topped a regional biennial meet.
