NEW DELHI -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned against using an eye drop made in India that has been linked to the outbreak of a drug-resistant bacteria leading to adverse events in at least 55 patients in the United States including infections, blindness and one death. The agency said on Thursday that Artificial Tears eye drop manufactured by India's Global Pharma Healthcare Pvt Ltd has a potential bacterial contamination and the company has violated current good manufacturing practices. Global Pharma Healthcare, based in the southern city of Chennai, said on Wednesday it had issued a voluntary recall at the consumer level of unexpired lots of the eye drop, which was distributed in the United States by EzriCare LLC and Delsam Pharma. Revised Law on Medical Examination and Treatment promulgated
The revised law aims to deal with shortcomings and emerging problems in medical examination and treatment activities in a bid to develop and improve the quality of medical services towards fairness, high efficiency, development and international integration, while strengthening State management over these activities. The law comprises 12 chapters and 121 articles, with many new contents, including those on the improvement of medical practitioners’ professional quality and the service quality of medical facilities, the increase of people’s access to health care services, and the renovation of regulations related to conditions to ensure the implementation of medical examination and treatment activities. Military-civilian ties boosted in Coi Da village
According to local people, since troops of Regiment 996 of the Quang Binh provincial Military Command implemented mobilization work, the commune has been changed positively. Head of Coi Da village Ho Van Vua held that in the past, the village was divided by a stream so local people had to wade through the water or travel quite a long distance to pass the stream. However, the troops helped locals build a concrete road so that the local people were able to go around the village. Coi Da is a village in Ngan Thuy commune with hard living and road conditions, and poor economic development. 474 cancer patients in Ho Chi Minh City wait for surgeries
As of the end of last month, 474 cancer patients were waiting to undergo surgeries at the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital in the namesake city, director of the hospital Pham Xuan Dung told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. He attributed the high number of patients waiting for surgeries to the degraded infrastructure and overload at the main campus of the infirmary, which is based in Binh Thanh District. The hospital’s director expected that when the second campus of the hospital, in Thu Duc City, is completely put into operation with the number of operating rooms increasing from 14 to 20, the waiting time will be shortened from four to three weeks. According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, the hospital performs 31,000-33,000 surgeries for cancer patients per year.
