3 hospitalized due to botulinum poisoning in Ho Chi Minh City
Three more people in Ho Chi Minh City have been hospitalized due to botulinum poisoning after two of them, who are siblings, ate cha lua (Vietnamese pork sausage) and the remaining man consumed fermented fish kept for a long time. Cho Ray Hospital and Gia Dinh People's Hospital are jointly treating the three cases, Dr. Le Quoc Hung, head of the tropical disease department at the former hospital, said on Saturday. The three patients live in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City. The two siblings, aged 18 and 26, ate bread with cha lua sold by a street vendor, while the remaining patient, a 45-year-old man, downed fermented fish on May 13. They developed the symptoms of digestive disorder, fatigue, headache, dizziness, and diarrhea the next day and became worse later with muscle weakness, dysphagia, and diplopia. Vietnam’s Phu Quoc welcomes over 2,600 int’l cruise guests
The Italian-flagged passenger cruise vessel Costa Serena brought more than 2,600 international guests to Phu Quoc, a popular island destination in southern Vietnam, on Sunday morning. This is the first five-star cruise to return to Phu Quoc City, which is an island off Kien Giang Province, after a long suspension induced by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also the first voyage by the Costa Serena to Phu Quoc City post-pandemic, said Le Thi Minh Thu, an advisor at Thien Y Marine Transport Services Company. The passengers on the ship, which carried a crew of over 1,000, are citizens of Thailand, Cuba, and some other countries. Joint efforts exerted to fight IUU fishing
Of the measures, the implementation of the Law on Fisheries is a key part of the inspection relating to fishing activities. Relevant parties, particularly the border guards, the coast guards, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have been jointly raising the awareness of law compliance for fishermen. In the Southern region, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command has conducted many communications activities to raise awareness on IUU fishing. From the end of March, it and the Agriculture and Rural Development in Ben Tre province organized events providing local fishermen with proper information on the prevention of IUU fishing, measures to verify and handle violations, the basic content of the Law on Coast Guard 2018, legal documents on prevention and combat of IUU fishing, and the situation of fishing vessels/fishermen in the area violating foreign waters, consequences, causes, and solutions. According to the Government’s proposal presented at the meeting, the draft resolution comprises 12 articles on piloting some typical mechanisms and policies in Ho Chi Minh City in terms of investment management; finance and state budget; urban and environmental resources management; the sectors that are prioritized in strategic investment attraction; scientific and technological management, and innovation; and apparatus organization in Ho Chi Minh City and its Thu Duc city. Oil paintings showcase Ho Chi Minh City lifestyle
Artist Ngo Dong drew the scenes in the early morning in 2020 at Tao Dan Park, District 1. This is one among over 80 works by the artist displayed at the “Hien Thuc Da Chieu” (Multi-dimensional Reality) exhibition at the HCMC Museum of Fine Arts on May 20-30. The majority of the paintings are about life in the southern city where the artist has lived for more than 40 years. His painting “Nang Mai Trong Pho” (Early Sunlight On The Streets) was drawn in 2020. After realizing that his life has become more beautiful and tranquil 15 years ago, he switched from his initial style of surrealism to realism. “I threw all of my surrealist paintings away, except for those that were sold. I find myself best expressed through realism inspired by real lives,” he said.
