EU to offer 5 support tools to Vietnam, address IUU fishing warning soon: new ambassador
The European Union (EU) will apply five assistance tools to Vietnam’s multifaceted development plan, as well as rapidly resolve its Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing ‘yellow card’ warning against the Southeast Asian country, the new EU ambassador to Vietnam recently announced. Ambassador Julien Guerrier was speaking at his first media meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday, one day after taking office and presenting his letter of credentials to Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong. Vietnam is an important EU partner in its Indo-Pacific strategy and the EU is one of Vietnam’s most reliable and long-standing friends and partners, Guerrier affirmed. Quang Ngai ramps up efforts against IUU fishing

(Photo: VNA) Quang Ngai (VNA) – The central coastal province of Quang Ngai has mobilised its entire political system in the fight against the illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and reaped significant results in this regard. As of September 2023, the locality counted 4,292 fishing vessels, of them 3,127 measuring 15 metres and above in length, along with about 38,000 labourers working at sea, according to Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ho Trong Phuong. The provincial People’s Committee established a steering committee on IUU fishing prevention in 2019, and issued a plan on the implementation of relevant tasks and solutions for the 2023-2025 period. Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control stays vigilant against Nipah outbreak in India
The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) said on Thursday it is monitoring people entering the city from regions hit by the Nipah virus, whose spread has killed two people in India's southern state of Kerala within one week. The southern Indian state recently reported six Nipah infections in one week, with two dead and a nine-year-old patient in serious conditions. More than 700 people, including healthcare workers, were tested for the deadly virus. The Kerala administration shut some schools, offices, and public transport in an attempt to curb the spread of the Nipah virus. Given the spread of the deadly virus, the HCDC ramped up efforts to monitor those entering the southern Vietnamese metropolis from virus-hit areas via Tan Son Nhat International Airport and seaports citywide to early detect and timely handle those with probable Nipah infection.
