Accordingly, it takes MoMo users about one minute to receive international money transfers from relatives in over 200 countries and territories. The recipient only needs to access MoMo and enter the 10-digit Money Transfer Control Number provided by the sender to receive the money immediately from their relatives abroad. Representatives of Western Union and MoMo speak about their companies’ partnership to pay money transfers through the MoMo app on March 20. — VNS Photo Western Union and MoMo on March 20 announced a tie-up that will enable customers to receive money transfers through the former on the latter’s app. Atish Shrestha, Indochina head of Western Union, said MoMo’s 31 million customers could now get their Western Union money transfers digitally from over 200 countries and territories. VN-Index plunges with no blue chip in green
The index closed 22.04 points lower after losing 2.26 points on Friday. Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) fell by 5.21% to VND9.75 trillion ($413.44 million). The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 28 tickers dropped. TPB of private TPBank led the fall with a 5.3% drop, followed by VCB of state-owned lender Vietcombank, down 4.4%. POW of electricity producer Petrovietnam Power Corporation lost 4.1% and SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities Corporation closed 3.9% lower. PLX of fuel distributor Petrolimex and VPB of private lender VPBank stayed unchanged. Foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of VND346.24 billion, mainly selling HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group and VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup. Dengue fever hits before rains this year
Vietnam has recorded around 13,000 cases of dengue fever so far this year, about 2.3 times higher than the same period in 2022, according to the Ministry of Health. The rising numbers of cases have been recorded in mainly in central and southern localities, the General Department of Preventive Medicine reported. However, Hanoi has also not been spared. The capital’s Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recorded 172 dengue fever cases in 23 of 30 districts, a 20-fold increase from the same period last year. The health ministry said abnormal weather conditions have contributed to the rise in the number of cases. Normally dengue does not hit in such numbers until the rainy season. A surge in cases is expected soon as the country enters the rainy season, it added. On Monday, the ministry asked localities to ramp up environmental cleanup efforts to curb the spread of outbreaks. 100 cafes, eateries in downtown HCMC to open their toilets to public
The initiative came after Hanoi and HCMC, Vietnam's two biggest cities, were ranked near the bottom in a global ranking of public toilet density of 69 cities by QS Supplies, one of the largest bathroom wholesalers and retailers in the U.K. They have only 0.01 public toilets available per square kilometer, higher only than the Egyptian capital Cairo, which has 0.002. Paris topped the ranking, with the French capital having seven per square kilometer, followed by Sydney (3.64) in Australia and Zurich (2.9) in Switzerland. After the ranking made local headlines, the HCMC People's Committee ordered districts to build more public toilets, starting with District 1.
