Phu Quoc island guards a national treasure: fish sauce
"What cognac is to France , so the pungent, fermented fish sauce is to Viet Nam : a national treasure that shouldn't be produced anywhere else. And everyone agrees that the best fish sauce, or nuoc mam, comes from the island of Phu Quoc ," said a correspondent of the "Christian Science Monitor". In an article "Vietnamese island guards a national treasure: fish sauce" on March 25, Simon Montlake said: "The islanders use only top-grade black anchovies, natural inputs, and traditional storage methods to make their sauce, as they have done for a century or more." Other Southeast Asian countries like Thailand and Cambodia produce their own sauces, but nobody does it quite like the Vietnamese." However, he said, Phu Quoc is changing, and so is the fish-sauce industry. … [Read more...] about Phu Quoc island guards a national treasure: fish sauce

Large serviced apartments go unrented
The owner of a serviced apartment project on Huynh Van Banh Street, Phu Nhuan District, said occupancy for small apartments had been at 90% since the fourth quarter last year. But he added that while 100% of his one-bedroom apartments were occupied, most of his two- or three-bedroom apartments were vacant. He noted that his smaller apartments often supplied "better living space and more utilities" than larger ones. "So, the best thing to do is to increase the number of small apartments." The owner of a serviced apartment project on Cuu Long Street, Tan Binh District, said 30-45 sq.m apartment occupancy rates were 90-95%, while occupancy rates for 60-65 sq.m apartments were only 80%.
