International conference talks heritage’s role in sustainable development
The conference, themed “Promoting the role of world cultural and natural heritage in sustainable development in Vietnam,” was jointly held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO and the Hanoi People’s Committee. It formed part of activities marking 35 years since Vietnam ratified the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quang Tuyen, Political Officer of the first Engineering Company, the unit has completed the construction of a house to present to an immigrant family in Abyei as a gift. The nine-member family has immigrated to Abyei and lived in a 5-6sq.m tattered tent around 300m from the company’s barracks. The Standing Committee of the Youth Union Chapter has mobilized all members to build the house from used materials to help the family soon stabilize their lives. Many schools in Hanoi warn of student kidnapping risks
Many schools in Hanoi have issued warnings about the risks of students being kidnapped. On March 24, a nursery school in Hoang Mai District asked parents to be more vigilant about kidnapping. According to Luu Ly from Hoang Mai District’s Dai Kim Ward, a child who is in the same class of her five-year-old daughter was followed by a stranger. The child then told her building security force about the issue so his security was ensured. In another recent incident, a grade-five student from a primary school in Hoang Mai District was cheated by a strange man. The man pretended to be a motorbike taxi driver hired by the child’s mother to pick him up. Luckily, while on the bike, he saw his mother and recognised he was deceived.
