Local telcos are set to being testing 5G services in the first quarter of 2019, whereas associated infrastructure and terminal equipment providers stand ready for 5G commercialisation starting from 2020. At a recent workshop on innovations in the telecommunications field, Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung unveiled that the ministry (MIC) will allow 5G test runs in major metropolises in 2019, primarily Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. “We are planning to grant 5G frequency for test runs in 2019. In 2020, when 5G starts to be rolled out in the world, Vietnam will be one of the first to deploy the service,” Hung said. Thua Thien-Hue plans to attract VND2.9 tril. investment into IPs The central province of Thua Thien-Hue has planned to lure VND2.9 trillion worth of investment in its industrial parks (IPs) this year. This year, enterprises in IPs are expected to disburse nearly VND 2,890 billion and employ some new 3,000 people (up 21.9% against last year). In 2012, they made industrial production value of VND3,247, accounting for 39.2% of the province's total, and export turnovers of US$294.6 million, representing 64% of the total. IPs have lured 78 investment projects, including 42 operational ones. They enticed VND7,200 billion worth of investment in 2012, trebling the figure in 2011. Vietnam eager to develop Lien Chieu deep seaport The government has been urging the authorities to appraise Lien Chieu Seaport, showing strong support and promising smoother sailing for the project. Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung recently urged the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) to appraise the capital sources and mobilisation methods of investment capital at Lien Chieu port. Besides, the DPM assigned the Danang People’s Committee to complete the pre-feasibility report for the project after the city studied MPI’ appraisal. Based on reports of MPI and Danang city, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) was asked to build the investment planning evaluation report to submit the prime minister for approval.
