HCM City needs VND2 trillion for flood control projects this year The Steering Center for Flood Control of HCMC (SCFC) has said the city will need at least VND2 trillion (US$89.8 million) to fund flood control projects this year. The center said that of the 56 projects planned for dealing with flood-prone streets in the city, a dozen projects would get underway this year and three would be completed by 2017. Eight projects were completed in 2015. Projects expected to reduce flooding at hotspots in the rainy season last year included a drainage system for Do Xuan Hop Street in District 9, improvement of a drainage system for the Kinh Duong Vuong Street section from Phu Lam to An Lac Roundabout, dredging Dong Tien Canal in District 12, the first phase of a drainage system improvement and pollution reduction project for Tham Luong-Ben Cat-Rach Nuoc Len Canal. Charity program for child cardiac patients started
The annual charity program called ‘Scar of life’ raising fund for children with heart defects has been kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City. The 6rd edition of the event will see ambassadors, including singer Hong Nhung, Meritorious Artist Linh Nga and actress Tang Thanh Ha. The program is part of ‘My life’ project which supports children with congenital cardiac disease in the country with participation of many celebrities starting in 2010, according to the project director, actress Ngo Thanh Van. An auction gala will be held on May 27, with the attendance of around 600 supporters including Vietnamese artists and businesspeople, to raise money for the Heartbeat Vietnam Fund to help children with cardiovascular diseases. Cardiac defibrillator implant gives man new lease on life (20-10-2005) HCM CITY — Twenty-year-old Nguyen Duong Thuy Hang is breathing normally again thanks to the successful implantation of a cardiac defibrillator. At 5:50pm last Saturday, a group of cardiologists at HCM City-based Thong Nhat Hospital's led by Dr Ton That Minh, together with Singaporean doctor Teo Wee Siong, completed the 50-minute operation to implant the device in Hang's heart. Born in 1985 in Nha Trang in the central province of Khanh Hoa, Hang began periodically suffering from fainting spells in 2003, with the occurrences becoming more frequent and serious, accompanied by chest pains and anxiety. Frequent visits to the hospital proved fruitless. But in June this year, doctors at Khanh Hoa Hospital discovered that Hang's fainting spells were caused by arrhythmia. HCMC hospitals admit children under 5 with dangerous Kawasaki disease
Two Ho Chi Minh City pediatric hospitals reported January 14 they have admitted several children with suspected Kawasaki disease that could lead to heart-related complications. The exact cause of the disease is not known despite much research but the children have symptoms like redness and swelling of the lips, tongue, and oral mucous membrane, dark rings around the eyes, and high fever. It typically affects kids below five. The cardiac ward at Children Hospital I has up to three children to a bed. Most had been diagnosed with dengue fever by small clinics in their districts. Doctors at the hospital said until five years ago there were around 20 cases a year. But the disease is in an uptrend, with the number going past 100 last year. Medical experts said Kawasaki is a dangerous disease that can lead to serious complications of the heart. The fatality rate is around 1 per cent and half of patients died during two first months. 5 more inborn cardiac children sent to Republic of Korea for surgery
PANO - A meeting among The National Fund for Vietnamese Children, Sunny Korea and 5 families whose children will get free-of-charge heart surgeries in Republic of Korea was held on November 23 at the National Fund for Vietnamese Children's headquarters. Sunny Korea has chosen 5 patients from provinces of Tuyen Quang, Dong Nai, Thanh Hoa, and Hanoi, and financed their surgery through the National Fund for Vietnamese Children. They will be operated and treated in 3 to 4 weeks. Sunny Korea will pay all expenses including traveling, accommodation, operation and treatment for these 5 patients and their parents whose children are under 12 years old. This is the second time this year Sunny Korea has collaborated with the National Fund for Vietnamese Children to implement such work.
