An employee of the Hanoi-based international tourism company Intrepid is among the nominees for the "Best Tour Guide in the World" annual award launched by a UK magazine. APEC members discuss best practices in trade policy for RTAs/FTAs
CPV: On February 27, in Hanoi, APEC delegations attended a workshop on best practices in trade policy for regional trade arrangements and free trade agreements (RTAs/FTAs): practical lessons and experiences for developing economies. Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Trade Luong Van Tu emphasized: "Under the APEC framework, RTAs/FTAs will be one of the prioritized cooperation fields of intense focus in coming years. The 13th APEC economic leaders' meeting in Busan, Korea, in 2005, put a high note on this priority by endorsing the Busan roadmap to the Bogor Goals, of which promotion of high-quality RTAs/FTAs was highlighted. The APEC leaders also endorsed the APEC trade facilitation model measures for RTAs/FTAs that would serve as a meaningful reference for negotiating RTAs/FTAs, and called for the development of model measures for as many commonly accepted FTA chapters as possible by 2008. EMW announces best practices supporting disabled Vietnamese
A press conference to announce the Top 10 Best Practices in 2009 among program models supporting people with disabilities in Vietnam was held March 3 by the East Meets West Foundation (EMWF) and Vietnam Television (VTV). Recognition of best practice programs is part of a global campaign titled "Life is Beautiful," which helps raise awareness about the problems of people with disabilities (PWDs) in Vietnam including children and adults with congenital disabilities, landmine victims, Agent Orange survivors and those injured in other accidents. The programs focus on assisting and supporting people with disabilities in Vietnam in different areas including health, inclusive education, vocational training, job placement, awareness raising of disability issues, capacity buiding for local partners, as well as early detection and prevention of defects.
