HÀ NỘI — The Australian-funded Gender Responsive Equitable Agriculture and Tourism (GREAT) programme hosted a symposium, Engaging Women in Markets – Scaling up Local Successes Nationwide, in Hà Nội on Friday. Throughout the day, the GREAT programme team and Government of Việt Nam representatives discussed evidence and lessons learned from the GREAT Programme that can help inform Việt Nam’s National Target Programmes (NTPs) implementation. The schools in Hoa Vang District have been given a total of VND1.1 billion (US$49,700) in funding from the commercial real estate CBRE Viet Nam’s COVID-19 rescue fund. The project, which was implemented by the East Meets West Foundation (EMWF), will provide school facilities, repair flood-destroyed infrastructure items, install drinkable water systems and provide information on how to disaster-resilient in the future, as well as raise awareness on daily cleaning habits among school students and teachers. The AFD and EU have been actively supporting Vietnam in the areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Vietnam will receive financial aid from the EU and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to reduce the vulnerability to climate hazards in several towns in four northern and central provinces. The project is jointly co-financed with a EUR5 million (US$5.36 million) grant from the EU, a EUR123 million ($132 million) ODA loan from the AFD, and EUR 28 million ($30 million) from provincial budgets. The principal goal is to help localities adapt to climate change and recover from natural disasters such as flooding, typhoons, and drought. The Ministry of Transport has approved a VND5.1-trillion (USD219.82 million) project to build the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge across the Tien River. The information was given by chairman of Ben Tre Province People’s Committee Tran Ngoc Nam. The design of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge The project is aimed to ease traffic on National Highway 60 and shorten the travel time from HCM City to the Mekong Delta provinces of Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau. According to Nam, the ministry has also approved a project worth VND1.158 trillion to build roads to lead to Rach Mieu 2. Work on the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge is scheduled to be kicked off on March 29. Project capital will be sourced from the state budget. The bridge will be 17.6 kilometres long and has six lanes. It is slated for being put into operation in 2026 at the latest.
