Italy's most wanted mafia boss, Matteo Messina Denaro, was arrested by armed police at a private hospital in Sicily on Monday, where the man who has been on the run since 1993 was being treated for cancer. Nicknamed "Diabolik" and "'U Siccu" (The Skinny One), Messina Denaro had been sentenced in absentia to a life term for his role in the 1992 murders of anti-mafia prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, crimes that shocked the nation and sparked a crackdown on Cosa Nostra. Messina Denaro, 60, was led away from Palermo's "La Maddalena" hospital by two uniformed carabinieri police and bundled into a waiting black minivan. He was wearing a brown fur-lined jacket, glasses and a brown and white woolly hat. Judicial sources said he was being treated for cancer and had an operation last year, followed by a series of appointments under a false name. "We had a clue to the investigation and followed it through to today's arrest," Palermo prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia said. … [Read more...] about After 30 years, Italy arrests mafia boss Messina Denaro at Sicilian hospital

The government’s Decision No.1445/QD-TTg dated November last year lays down an action plan to implement the Commodity Import-Export Strategy (CEIS) to 2030. The CEIS provides for three main objectives. INEOS confirms entering bidding process to buy Manchester United
Jim Ratcliffe's company INEOS has formally entered the bidding process to buy Premier League soccer club Manchester United, a spokesperson for the chemical firm said on Tuesday. The Glazer family, United's U.S. owners, said in November they had begun looking at options for the 20-times English champions, including new investment or a potential sale, 17 years after they bought the Old Trafford club. "I can confirm that we have formally put ourselves into the process," an INEOS spokesperson said in a statement on Tuesday. United declined to comment when contacted by Reuters. The Times newspaper, which first reported the news, said formal bids were expected to start next month, with United potentially changing hands by the end of the season. Vietnamese writer shares love of homeland in award-winning English-language book
Perhaps the biggest turning point in Nguyen Phan Que Mai’s life was the morning she woke up to an email from her literary agent with an offer from Algonquin Books – a New York-based publisher – to publish her very first English-language novel “The Mountains Sing.” A dream Mai, originally from Ninh Binh Province in northern Vietnam, wrote “The Mountains Sing” as a way to spread Vietnamese literature and culture by recounting the story of a Vietnamese family’s journey through the twentieth century, including their trials and tribulations during the French Colonial period, the separation of the North and the South, the Vietnam War, and the present day. Her inspiration for the novel was a deep frustration that language barriers were a major obstacle for international readers who wished to access Vietnamese literature. The books on Vietnam that English-language readers did have access to were primarily about the Vietnam War and written by Western writers who gave their Vietnamese … [Read more...] about Vietnamese writer shares love of homeland in award-winning English-language book
