A Vietnamese man has chosen to follow the newest agricultural trend which guarantees both profit and quality, with human health always in his mind. The Na San region, near Son La’s airport, is where Thanh’s orange garden is located. Customers are often invited to visit, observe, and acquaint themselves with clean agricultural practices that are becoming Thanh’s values to guarantee safety and quality of the goods he sells. Thanh’s garden of one hectare is covered with orange trees with ripe fruits hanging off of the branches that look like orange polka dots on a green background from afar. Family agrees to relocate from house blocking street
Nguyen Thi Luyen, the 65-year-old owner of the home, said she met with local officials on Wednesday and agreed to move to a 300-square-meter lot, a size equal to her current house. "I found the location suitable. My family is tired of living in the middle of the street," Luyen said. Her family moved temporarily to a communal house on Thursday and will stay there while waiting for their new house to be built. Their current house will be demolished this week to serve the completion of the road project. Luyen’s was one of 151 families asked to relocate in 2021 to make way for a road that would connect the residential area with another larger street. The road now stretches 2.3 kilometers long and seven meters wide, but a section 14 meters long has been left uncompleted as Luyen’s house still stands in the way. The house occupies two-thirds of the road, leaving a space of just two meters wide for traffic. Luyen had rejected authorities’ original relocation plan earlier as the … [Read more...] about Family agrees to relocate from house blocking street

U.S. Fed delivers small rate hike amid global banking turmoil
The Federal Reserve on Wednesday raised interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point, but indicated it was on the verge of pausing further increases in borrowing costs after the recent collapse of two U.S. banks. Fed Chair Jerome Powell sought to reassure investors about the soundness of the banking system, saying that the management of Silicon Valley Bank "failed badly," but that the bank's collapse did not indicate wider weaknesses in the banking system. "These are not weaknesses that are running broadly through the banking system," he said, adding that the takeover of Credit Suisse seemed to have been a positive outcome. The Federal Open Market Committee policy statement also said the U.S. banking system is "sound and resilient." Even so, Wall Street ended sharply lower after Powell told a news conference that officials were still intent on fighting inflation while also eying the extent to which recent bank failures had cooled demand and slowed lending. Hanoi traditional markets suffer fall in sales
Many of Hanoi’s traditional markets have attracted fewer customers after the Covid-19 pandemic. At around 9 am on March 22, Nga Tu So Market in Dong Da District was quiet, with more traders than customers. A man who works for the market’s parking lot said that over the past few years, just 20-30 motorbikes have been kept there every day compared to the hundreds a decade ago. Dang Viet Bang, deputy head of Dong Da District’s Market Management Board, said amid the fierce competition from online shopping, the number of traders at Nga Tu So Market has fallen to 200 compared to the previous 754. Some areas in the market have seriously deteriorated. Kim Yen, a 59-year-old trader, often turns on music to exercise as she has so much free time. Pricing structure not enough to clinch nation’s energy goals
A group of solar power ventures that did not make the 2021 feed-in tariff deadline remain idle and developers want fresh solutions Nearly 40 renewable power investors last week asked the prime minister to consider addressing pricing-related inadequacies in renewables development. The joint letter said that the impact of the pandemic and expiry of the country’s previous feed-in tariffs (FiTs) has resulted in 84 renewable power projects, with total capacity of some 4,600MW, falling behind schedule and failing to achieve commercial operation. Among these, 28 wind farms and six solar farms with the combined capacity of more than 2,000MW, which have cost an estimated $3.6 billion are eligible to connect to the national power grid, are still waiting for a suitable pricing mechanism.
