Pork purchasing power declines sharply due to extremely high prices
The Department of Industry and Trade on December 12 met representatives of two wholesale markets for agricultural products and food, namely Binh Dien and Hoc Mon, in order to evaluate supply, demand and prices of pork from now to lunar New Year. These two wholesale markets currently supply around 80 percent of pork for daily consumption needs of people in Ho Chi Minh City. At the meeting, representatives of wholesale markets said that prices of pork quoted by husbandry enterprises continued to climb by VND1,000-VND2,000 per kilogram to VND76,000-VND77,000 per kilogram. Over 1,300 requests processed through national public service portal

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Four days after it was launched the national public service portal had by 4:00pm of December 12 been accessed by 2.3 million people, receiving 581 requests for supply of low- and middle-voltage power, 693 for driving licence swapping and international driving licence issuing, and 51 on re-issuing of health insurance cards. According to Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, data of the portal will continue to be enriched with the addition of more public services such as customs and tax declarations. The portal, which was launched on December 9, has provided eight services. Consumers begin to feel pork pinch

In some provinces, the price of live pigs has hit a record of VND80,000 ($3.45) per kilogramme, an almost 170 per cent increase in just six months. The record tally has already pushed the price of pork in wet markets across the country up to VND170,000 ($7.40) per kilogramme. The price of other foodstuff made from pork, such as Vietnamese sausages, has also hiked up to VND40,000 ($1.70) per kilogramme. In some shops and restaurants in Hanoi, the rise has led to increases of up to VND10,000 ($0.40) per dish.
