This was the focus of the Supporting Industry Forum 2019, held in Ho Chi Minh City on December 13. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said leather-footwear is one of the key exporting industries of Vietnam. With an annual export growth rate of over 10 percent, the industry earned the country approximated 20 billion USD in 2018 and over 10 billion USD in the first half of 2019. The Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (Lefaso) forecast this year’s leather-footwear exports at some 21.5 billion USD, up 10 percent from 2018. Vietnamese footwear has been shipped to more than 100 countries, including 50 with imports worth over 1 million USD from Vietnam. Hà Nội becomes official member of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network
HÀ NỘI — Chief Representative of the UNESCO Office in Việt Nam Michael Croft presented a certificate recognising Hà Nội as an official member of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network to Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyễn Đức Chung at a ceremony in the capital on Friday. Chung said the participation in the network enabled Hà Nội to increase its competitiveness in investment attraction, stimulate urban regeneration, and develop education programmes and cultural events in association with sustainable development. Hà Nội is also ambitious to become an envoy and a bridge to connect other cities in Việt Nam and regional countries to join the network, as well as a global intellectual and innovative destination, according to Chung. Police propose auctioning unclaimed seized vehicles
Police across the country stored nearly 137,000 unclaimed vehicles, including 722 cars, between 2013 and September 2019 (Photo: baogiaothong.vn) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Vehicles seized for traffic violations should be auctioned if the owners fail to come forward within 30 days instead of the current one year, the Ministry of Public Security said at a recent meeting organised by the National Assembly’s Legal Affairs Committee in Hanoi. The move would free up warehouse space and avoid waste, participants heard. Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc said police across the country stored nearly 137,000 unclaimed vehicles, including 722 cars, between 2013 and September 2019. Due to the long time in storage, 37,000 vehicles were damaged, he said. Thua Thien-Hue aims to become a cultural, tourism centre of Asia by 2020
This is one of the goals set for the province under the Politburo’s Resolution No.54-NQ/TTW on the building and development of Thua Thien-Hue till 2030 with a vision to 2045. The province is also set to become one of the country’s hubs in the fields of science, technology, multidisciplinary education and training, national defence-security. Thua Thien-Hue is envisioned to become a festival city of Asia by 2045. Banks issues more chip cards for security
According to Pham Dang Khoa, deputy director of Vietinbank’s Card Centre, the biggest problem for banks when it comes to replacing magnetic strip cards is the cost. Banks have to pay for the new cards and invest in devices that accept them, such as ATMs and POS machines. Meanwhile, most customers are not willing to pay to switch. With more than eight million existing customers using magnetic strip cards, Khoa estimated his bank will have to spend a large sum as the cost of producing a chip card is roughly eight to ten times higher than magnetic strip cards. To encourage customers to use chip cards, Khoa said VietinBank would help customers replace their old cards due to the advantages of the new ones. According to Khoa, the information contained in the chips was encrypted and only the issuing bank could read the data on it. Thus, they reduce the risk of information being stolen and counterfeits.
