Nationwide economic census begins on March 1

Production inside a firm in Vietnam (Photo: VNA) According to GSO Deputy Director General Nguyen Trung Tien, results of the census are part of the foundation for the compilation of targets on gross domestic product (GDP), gross regional domestic product (GRDP), and many other statistical indicators. Objectives of the census are production and business enterprises and cooperatives; production and business establishments under administrative agencies and productive agencies; branches and representative offices of foreign enterprises and foreign non-governmental organisations; religious and belief establishments; and individual non-agricultural, fishery and forestry business and production establishments. The census will collect information about production and business types; forms of operation, labour and labourers’ income, production and business outcomes and costs, information technology application, and access to loans and international economic integration. The census aims to serve the assessment of the country’s socio-economic development, thus helping the Party and State with making development plans and policies. The preliminary data will be released in December 2021, while the official results are expected to be announced in January 2022. Results of the 2017 Economic Census showed that there were more than 5.86 million economic units in the country as of July 1, 2017, including over 517,900 enterprises, which employed 26.9 million employees and more than 14 million labourers respectively, up 13.7 percent and 18.6 percent as compared to 2012. Economic census launched nationwide

According to Nguyen Trung Tien, deputy director general of the GSO, results of the census are part of the foundation for the compilation of targets regarding gross domestic product (GDP), gross regional domestic product (GRDP), and many other crucial statistical indicators. The key objectives of the census relate to production and business enterprises and co-operatives, production and business establishments under administrative agencies and productive agencies, along with branches and representative offices of foreign enterprises and foreign non-governmental organisations. This is in addition to religious and belief establishments, along with individual non-agricultural, fishery and forestry businesses and production establishments. Moving forward, the census will focus on collecting information regarding production and business types, forms of operation, labour and the income of labourers, production and business outcomes and costs, the use of information technology, and access to loans and international economic integration. In line with this, preliminary data will be released in December, while official results are anticipated to be announced in January, 2022. 2021 economic census begins on Monday

The 2021 economic census would apply information technology in implementation to increase accuracy and reduce costs. — VNA/VNS Photo Mai Phương HÀ NỘI — The General Statistics Office (GSO) officially kicked off the 2021 economic census on Monay to have a comprehensive evaluation of the Vietnamese economy. Carried out under the Prime Minister’s Decision No 307/QĐ-TTg dated February 27, the economic census aimed to assess the development in the number, size and labour of economic entities, production and business results, the level of information technology application, structure of economic establishments labours by localities, economic sectors and ownership forms to serve the State management. The census also aimed to review official statistical indicators, such as gross domestic product (GDP) and gross regional domestic product (GRDP) and to develop economic database. The 2021 census would be conducted via Web-form and computer-assisted personal interviews (CAPI). To May 30, the survey would be conducted on business establishments, branches and representative offices of foreign enterprises, associations, organisations and licensed non-Government organisations. From July 1 to July 30, the information would be collected for individual non-agricultural, forestry and fishery establishments as well as religious establishments. The preliminary results would be announced in December and the official results would be announced in the second quarter of 2022. GSO said that the economic census was a very important survey which would help provide data of all economic sectors and understand thes structure of GDP to be the premise for the calculation of GDP and GRDP with the highest accuracy. It would reflect the situtation of the economy and of every economic sector and every locality.
