Fidel Castro’s historic Vietnam visit solemnly celebrated
Fifty years ago, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and Prime Minister Fidel Castro visited Vietnam, and travelled to Quang Tri province – a newly liberated land in the south of Vietnam. As the first and only foreign head of state to visit the liberated zone before the war ended, Fidel Castro’s historic visit became a symbol of faithful and fraternal solidarity between peoples of the two countries with noble ideals for peace, national independence, democracy and progress in the world. Vietnam probes wind towers imported from China, weighs anti-dumping tax
Vietnam's industry ministry has launched an investigation that could lead to anti-dumping duties on wind towers originally from China, following a complaint by domestic producers, the government said on Saturday. Producers in Vietnam have claimed that dumping of Chinese-origin towers has caused "significant damage" to them, the government said in a statement, without elaborating. "In case of necessity, based on preliminary investigation results, the trade ministry can apply temporary anti-dumping measures to prevent dumping activities that hurt domestic manufacturing," the statement added. The government gave no timeline for completing the investigation. Neither Vietnamese customs nor the statistics office provide data on wind tower imports. According to the trade ministry, local producers were proposing an anti-dumping tax rate of 97%. Wind towers imported to Vietnam currently enjoy a most-favored nation (MFN) tariff of 3%. A tropical depression barreled down Thua Thien-Hue on September 26, causing rains also to nearby provinces like Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa. By September 28, the rains had expanded to the plains and certain mountainous areas of northern Vietnam. By September 30, nine people in Thanh Hoa, Son La, Quang Tri, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho and Nghe An had been confirmed dead amid floods and landslides, according to the National Steering Center for Natural Disaster Prevention. One in Son La and another in Binh Phuoc were swept away by floods and rendered missing. 10 people in Thua Thien-Hue and Nghe An were injured. Rains and floods have also damaged over 44,000 ha of rice and crops, mostly in Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces. Nail traps allegedly placed on road by robbers in Vietnam’s Long An
Police in Long An Province, southern Vietnam said on Saturday that they were probing a case in which boards with upward-facing nails were believed to be put on a road in Thu Thua District by a group of vandals in an attempt to commit robberies. According to a police report, T., a 42-year-old local resident in Long An, and her relative noticed two boards full of nails left on the road, numbered 818, running through Thu Thua’s Tan Thanh Commune while they were traveling in a car from southern Tay Ninh Province at around 7:30 pm on Friday. They stopped the car and T. stepped out to go toward the two boards. As soon as she picked them up, a local inhabitant holding a flashlight ran to her and warned her against robbers in the area.
