Over the past week, Vietnam has recorded an average of 2,000 new COVID-19 cases each day. More than 100 seriously ill COVID-19 patients are being treated at hospitals. The increase will cause overload for the health system, particularly in the context of the outbreak of other diseases such as dengue fever, influenza A and hand-foot-mouth, according to the ministry. Also, there is a high risk for newly emerging infectious diseases such as monkeypox and chronic liver problems to enter Vietnam. As the BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants of Omicron have appeared in many southern localities while the new academic year will start soon, the ministry is urging localities to continue to speed up vaccination, particularly booster doses for the adult population and the second dose for children … [Read more...] about Health Ministry demands prudence as COVID-19 cases rise

Medical facilities must not consider homosexuality as disease: Vietnam health ministry
The Ministry of Health recently requested local authorities to correct medical facilities that advertised the treatment of homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality. In a document sent to health departments of provinces and cities last week, the Ministry of Health said it had received information that some medical facilities and doctors claimed to be able to ‘cure homosexuality.’ The health ministry quoted the American Psychiatric Association and World Health Organization as affirming that homosexuality is not a disease, thus it cannot be cured, does not need to be cured, and cannot be changed. On May 17, 1990, WHO officially removed homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses. Homosexuality has been neither considered a disease nor included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) since 1994. WHO defines homosexuality as a sexual orientation in which people are attracted to other people of the same sex, stressing that it … [Read more...] about Medical facilities must not consider homosexuality as disease: Vietnam health ministry

"We'll continue to closely follow instructions from the WHO, watch for experiences from other countries, and study the local demand for vaccination of this age group," the ministry said. According to the ministry, the most important work now is to speed up the vaccination progress for children from five years old and adults as the number of infections have begun to rise again. Testing COVID-19 (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - The Ministry of Health has proposed continuing to keep COVID-19 in Group A of infectious disease , not an endemic disease in its latest draft on COVID-19 prevention and control measures in the new situation. Regarding the reason why COVID-19 has not been considered an endemic disease in Vietnam yet, the Ministry of Health said that most countries in the world are in a state of unstable cases and deaths, with an erratic increase and decrease trend when new variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus appear. At the same time, acquired immunity (due to vaccines and infection) has not been stable for a long time and decreases over time. In Vietnam, more than 9 million new cases were reported in the first seven months of this year, with over 33,000 cases in July alone, up 22.4% from June.
