Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam has made an impression on the international community as a safe country with great economic potential, and its success in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and maintaining economic growth has been miraculous, a Japanese expert has said. Cambodia to use Chinese-developed COVID-19 vaccine
Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia will receive 1 million doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine developed by Sinopharm of China to vaccinate 500,000 people, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced via his Facebook account. The Cambodian PM also said he will be the first to receive Sinopharm vaccine shots. He said that in the context of widespread virus, the Kingdom will not hesitate to receive Chinese-aided COVID-19 vaccines although they have not yet approved by WHO. As the doses are not enough for all Cambodian, it will be used for prioritised people including doctors, teachers, all-level armed forces, the judiciary, and other public service providers like taxi drivers. COVID-19 pandemic worsens in Philippines, Indonesia
Hanoi (VNA) - The Philippine Department of Health (DOH) on January 18 reported 2,163 new daily (COVID-19) cases, the highest in more than two months in the Southeast Asian country. The last time the daily new cases in the Philippines exceeded the January 18 number was on November 8, 2020, which stood at 2,442. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 502,736 so far. The death toll climbed to 9,909 after 14 more patients died from the disease, the DOH said. It added two more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 465,988. The Philippines, which has about 110 million population, has tested over 6.84 million people since the disease emerged in January last year. Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 9,086 in the past 24 hours to 917,015, with the death toll adding by 295 to 26,282, the Health Ministry said on January 18. Two more imported Covid-19 patients recorded on Monday
According to the ministry's report, the Vietnamese patient is a 28-year-old man who returned from the US to Danang International Airport on January 13. He was sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on January 17. The patient is now being treated at the Danang Lung Hospital. Earlier, three other people who boarded the same flight with him had also been infected with the virus. The 59-year-old Costa Rican man arrived at the Noi Bai International Airport from the UAE on January 16. He is now being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases. With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 845. As of 6 pm on January 18, a total of 1,402 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.
