Exhibition "Breath of Life" by Trinh Thang Opening: Sun 26 Jun 2016, 10 am Exhibition: 26 Jun - 09 Jul 2016 Exhibition House, 16 Ngo Quyen, Hanoi The exhibition "Breath of Life" by Trinh Thang will feature 45 among more than 200 painting of him, marking his creative breakthrough over the past year. Trinh Thang's artworks are initially quite self-absorbed and innocent. He unintentionally simulates anything but not ignores the flow of life. Trinh Thang obviously stands between two extremes: one side is the innocence and the other is the responsibility of those who understand life. He seems to have been able to describe this state of living in each painting. Looking at his paintings, we are free to feel, express and draw conclusions but never should we confine them to any certain extreme. ' Let his artworks drift and express itself freely as a breath of life, just like the title of the exhibition. 30% tax proposed for SMS voting, prediction services
Programs that invite customers to predict football results or cast votes for contestants in reality TV shows by sending text messages should be subject to an excise tax worth 30 percent, the Ministry of Finance has proposed. Audiences can vote for their favorite contestants by sending text messages with the services operated by the country's largest mobile network operators—Vinaphone, MobiFone, and Viettel—under cooperation with the organizers of the programs. SMS voting is also applied in predicting football results and those of other sports events. Customers are currently charged VND5,000 to VND15,000 for each text message sent to such services, while the normal cost is only VND350 per message. Revenues from these messages are divided among the network operators and the program organizers as agreed in their contracts. Currently, the network operators only declare and pay value-added taxes for revenues from these services, while they are exempt from the excise … [Read more...] about 30% tax proposed for SMS voting, prediction services
Khmer Rouge prison chief sentenced to 30 years in jail
In an historic first, a United Nations-backed court on July 27 sentenced a Khmer Rouge prison chief to 30 years in jail for crimes against humanity over mass executions during Cambodia's "Killing Fields" era. Kaing Guek Eav, better known as Duch, is the first Khmer Rouge cadre to face justice in an international tribunal over the deaths of up to two million people through starvation, overwork and execution under the 1975-1979 regime. But to the dismay of survivors and relatives of victims, the court took into account the years he had already served since his arrest in 1999, meaning that the 67-year-old could walk free in about 19 years. Duch apologised during his trial in Phnom Penh for overseeing mass murder of 15 000 men, women and children at Tuol Sleng prison, also known as S-21, but shocked the court in November by finally asking to be acquitted. Crowds of Cambodians, including regime survivors and Buddhist monks, turned up at the specially built court on the … [Read more...] about Khmer Rouge prison chief sentenced to 30 years in jail
