Vacancy rate of offices in HCM City predicted to reach record in 12 years

In its report on HCM City office market in the third quarter of 2023, Knight Frank Vietnam predicted that in the fourth quarter, the office vacancy rate will increase to over 20% due to new supply in Thu Thiem area in Thu Duc city, which is a 12-year high. Specifically, in Ho Chi Minh City, rents decreased 2.2% quarter-on-quarter for Grade A office and 0.2% for Grade B office, while Grade A office vacancy rate increased to 18.2% and that in Grade B rose to 11.6%. Classroom milk tea lesson leads to students’ food poisoning in northern Vietnam
Five of the middle school students who drank the milk tea that they had made during a classroom activity required hospitalization over food poisoning in Lao Cai Province, northern Vietnam earlier this week. A total of 38 eighth-grade students and their chemistry teacher tried making milk tea in their classroom at Pom Han Middle School in the northern province’s Lao Cai City on Monday morning. The teacher drank the milk tea made by the students to grade their efforts before the latter consumed it. About an hour later, five of the students exhibited symptoms such as abdominal pain, queasiness, headaches, and diarrhea. The children underwent examination at the school’s medical room and were subsequently transferred to the Lao Cai General Hospital, where they were diagnosed with food poisoning. Disbursed capital also reached more than $15.9 billion, an increase of 2.2 per cent. Data from the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) showed that the total newly-registered foreign investment capital, adjusted and contributed capital to buy shares, and buy contributed capital of foreign investors reached approximately $20.21 billion as of 20 September this year, up 7.7 per cent year-on-year. SBV rolls out measures to reign in raising US-VND exchange rate

According to an SBV report, the exchange rate for the greenback broke the VNĐ24,000 mark on September 11 and reached its highest level at VNĐ24,076 on Monday. On the black market, the USD exchange rate on Monday was trading at around VNĐ 24,320 - 24,400, an increase of about 170 VNĐ compared to the previous week. Commercial banks reported a USD exchange rate of VNĐ24,500-24,600 earlier this month, a 3.3 per cent increase year-to-year compared to the same period last year. Since the beginning of August, export prices have risen to more than US$660 per tonne. — VNA/VNS Photo Việt Nam is looking to increase the volume and revenue of rice exports in the remaining months of this year, but a wide range of hindrances are looming on the horizon. Last July, India banned rice exports, a move that is widely seen as a golden opportunity for Việt Nam to bolster rice shipments abroad. As of August, the country had exported nearly six million tonnes of rice, the highest amount ever recorded, up 20 per cent year-on-year and accounting for 89 per cent of the target set for the whole year, according to the General Department of Việt Nam Customs.
