Workshop seeks to support women, children in Vietnamese-Korean marriage breakups
At the event (Photo: VNA) Hai Phong (VNA) – A workshop was held in the northern city of Hai Phong on December 12 to discuss ways to support women and children in Vietnamese-Korean marriages who return home after breakups. Participants looked at the legal and psychological difficulties faced by women in broken Vietnam – Korea multi-cultural families and Vietnamese–Korean children living in Hai Phong and other provinces. Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union provincial chapter Vu Thi Kim Lien said Hai Phong handled over 6,000 applications for marriages with foreign partners from 2015 to 2019, more than 3,000 of which were between Vietnamese and Korean citizens. Hospitals and health departments ordered to supervise testing

The move aims to prevent further medical violations after medical workers of Saint Paul Hospital in Hà Nội allegedly cut thousands of HIV testing strips in half to use them for two people instead of one and ignored instructions from the manufacturer. Although the hospital said the cutting was on trial basis and the results were not given to patients, it has risen public concerns over the accuracy of testing at hospitals. Infectious diseases spread as cold weather hits Vietnam
An increase in cold-related illnesses such as high fever, diarrhea, and flu amongst children have been recorded in big hospitals in Hanoi including Bach Mai, National Children Hospital, Thanh Nhan, Saint Paul. Deputy Director of the National Children Hospital Tran Minh Dien said that more than 30 kids catching flu are being treated in the hospital. Most of them have suffered complications of pneumonia. Worse, ten measles children have not been vaccinated and some whooping cough children are under three months old in the hospital. Saint Paul Hospital admitted more than 300 children a day, a surge of 10 percent compared to November while the Lung Hospital receives 300 adult inpatients daily, an increase of 1.5 times compared to previous month. Worryingly, 250,000 dengue fever cases have been recorded in 12 months, a 300 percent increase compared to last year.
