Young lifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah of Indonesia won a gold medal and broke a Games record in the men's 73kg. The 21-year-old athlete succeeded with a 155kg lift in the snatch. This record is also a personal record for Erwin. His previous heaviest lift was a significantly lighter 145kg . Moving on to the clean and jerk class, Erwin almost immediately beat his competitors at the first opportunity, immediately lifting 180kg. This again surpassed the SEA Games record of 177kg. Second National Paragliding Club Championships 2022 starts
The second National Paragliding Club Championships 2022 opens on Ly Son Island off the coast of Quang Ngai Province on May 21. The competition comprises individual man and individual women categories and team classification. Each team is made up of a maximum of seven pilots. Pilots will take off from a point on Thoi Loi Mountain and land on the 500-square-meter area. The competition will run from May 21 to 22. Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai Province Nguyen Tien Dung said that the event aims to enhance the strength training movement and contribute to the propaganda on national sovereignty over sea and islands among people as well as promote Ly Son’s tourism. Exhibition shows ethnic groups’ traditional handicraft
PANO - The Southern Women Museum is exhibiting 152 images and 84 objects highlighting weaving and dying methods and patterns of the traditional costumes of Cham, Khmer and other ethnic minority groups in the Truong Son-Central Highland region. The exhibition, opened on October 14th in Ho Chi Minh City, aims to honor women of those groups, who have been trying to preserve their traditional trade. It is also to introduce to visitors the groups’ cultures, and preservation of traditional trade, contributing to local socio-economic and tourism development. According to Nguyen Thi Tham, the museum’s manager, typical patterns on traditional costume of the ethnic minority groups feature the living environment, culture and rituals of each group. Tra Vinh invests 450 billion VND in developing craft villages
The southern province of Tra Vinh will inject 450 billion VND (21.4 million USD) into preserving and developing its craft villages between now and to 2020. Under a project recently announced by the provincial People’s Committee, the locality will spend 246 billion on upgrading village infrastructure and the remaining will be used to build material zones, help businesses access technology and implement trade promotion activities. Vietnam stocks ‘extremely cheap’: Finnish fund
The market’s forward price-to-earning (P/E) ratio has declined from 14.1 to 10.9 since April, tracking the 23 percent drop by the benchmark VN-Index. The fund’s founder, Petri Deryng, said the crash came as "a complete surprise" as there was news of robust earnings growth and valuations were modest. Vietnam’s valuations are now irrational with a forward P/E ratio of 10.9 though Q1 earnings growth was 31 percent and the forecast for the full year is 19-29 percent, he said. Vietnam’s five-year historical rolling P/E has been 16.5, and even topped 20 during periods of strong earnings growth, he pointed out. "The outlook of the global stock markets cannot be ignored when assessing the possible timing of the bull runs of the Vietnamese market, but at these valuations Vietnam offers a stable economy and extremely cheap stocks," he said in a note published Thursday.
