The southern metropolis Ho Chi Minh City will set off fireworks in four venues to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the liberation of south Vietnam and national reunification (April 30) and the 130th International May Day (May 1). The shows are scheduled for 9-9:30pm on April 30 at the roof of Saigon river tunnel in district 2, Dam Sen cultural park in district 11, Cu Chi and Can Gio districts. As part of celebrations, a photo exhibition will open along Nguyen Hue, Dong Khoi streets and Labour Culture Palace in district 1 from April 25. Music performances, the 28th HCM City TV Cup bicycle race and other sport tournaments are also scheduled for April 30. Vietnam aim higher at international sport events
Vietnamese athletes are aiming for higher achievements at regional and international sport tourneys this year such as the 28th SEA Games, the 18th Asian Games (ASIAD 18), and qualification rounds of the Olympic 2016. The General Department for Sports and Physical Training reported at a conference on January 14 that in 2014, the country’s sport representative brought home a total of 355 gold, 253 silver, and 272 bronze medals, including 22 golds, 23 silvers and 32 bronzes from world sport events; 29 golds, 32 silvers and 60 bronzes in Asian events; and 242 golds, 171 silvers and 133 bronzes in Southeast Asian events. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh hailed the coaches and athletes for their brilliant performance in the year just gone. Da Lat city holds 2014 national chess tourney
PANO - The 2014 National Chess Championship will take place in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province, from March 26th to April 2nd, with the participation of 64 players across the country. Vietnam says goodbye to Asian Cup 2015
PANO - Vietnam national football squad's dream to join the Asian Cup 2015 was shattered after losing in the second-leg game against Uzbekistan at the My Dinh stadium on November 15th. From a blunder of goalkeeper Tan Truong at the 40th minute, Sodiev snatched the opportunity to put the guests ahead. U23 Vietnam trounces U23 Brunei 7-0
PANO - U23 Vietnam beat U23 Brunei 7-0 in Group A's first game of the SEA Games 27 in December 8th. Facing an underrated opponent, U23 Vietnam's coaching staff decided to use the 4-1-4-1 formation with central midfielder Thanh Hien behind four other midfielders backing striker Ha Minh Tuan. In defence, Tien Thanh was brought in to strengthen the line with defender Manh Hung. In the first half, U23 Brunei created the first scoring opportunity in the 2nd minute when Zakwan headed the ball over the bar, while U23 Vietnam played in defence for the first few minutes of the match. However, U23 Vietnam quickly caught up with the pace of the game and Van Thang was near scoring in the 11th minute but he was not ruled off-sides. In the 22nd minute, Ha Minh Tuan passed the ball to Vu Minh Tuan to score the first goal for U23 Vietnam in a counter-attack.
