There are three problems which may make foreign investors shrink when considering investment in transport infrastructure projects in Vietnam. MobiFone was the second mobile network provider to be approved by the Ministry of Information and Communications to pilot the 5G technology and its telecoms services in Vietnam. According to the Decision issued on April 25, this provider can carry out the one-year piloting period from April 23, 2019 to April 22, 2020 in the four cities of Hanoi,Da Nang, Hai Phong, and Ho Chi Minh. On May 10, 2019, its first 5G connection was successfully created, with the speed of 1.5-1.7Gbps – much faster than the theoretical speed of its 4G LTE brother and equal to the one of commercial optical cable. In September 2019, MobiFone achieved very positive results with its 5G station in Hanoi, greatly lessening the piloting time. E-government for 4.0 closer to reality (illustration photo) A few weeks ago Mai Tien Dung, Minister, Chairman of the Government Office, and Japanese Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Masatoshi Ishida inked an MoU on developing e-government in Vietnam. Under the deal, both sides will share experience in compiling legal frameworks and policies for the scheme. Moreover, Japan will help train Vietnamese experts and managers of IT services in operating an information system for an e-government. Both nations will also organise conferences on e-government and training workshops. The Japanese side is also considering a non-refundable assistance sum for a technical package for e-government construction in Vietnam. E-government is considered an effective mechanism for increasing government productivity and efficiency, and is a key enabler of citizen-centric services.
