The tournament on Sunday night was a part of the MTR: One King Victory in Pride.
Fighters in the Muay Thai 4-Man Tournament competed in the 60 kg and 68 kg classes. The match-up is decided by a draw. All fights on Sunday were hosted at the Saigon Sports Club, HCMC.
In the 68 kg event, Tuan faced British fighter Mamouh Ali Mousa. As the WBC Muay Thai Vietnam champion, Tuan easily defeated Mousa.
The title fight saw Tuan going up against Austrian fighter Mochamed Emin Machaev, who beat Russia’s Makhali Baranov in the second semifinal.
Machaev attacked Tuan right from the start as he aimed to dominate the Vietnamese fighter. However, Tuan had great resistance and fought back in the next two rounds.
He was declared the winner on points and pocketed $5,000.
Another Vietnamese fighter, Nguyen Van Duc Nghia, competed in the 60 kg event. He had a good fight against Japan’s Julian Leo Gravine, but couldn’t beat him. Gravine went on to win the title after defeating Cypriot fighter Ismail Al-Kadhi in the final.
In addition to the Muay Thai 4-Man Tournament, six other exhibition matches between Vietnamese and foreign fighters took place as a part of the event.
A total of VND700 million ($29,000) was given to the fighters.
Another Muay Thai tournament is expected to be held in Vietnam later this year, by Shadown Entertainment and Saigon Sports Club.
