The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) on Thursday announced that Japanese football expert Koshida Takeshi had joined the association earlier that day as technical director.
Takeshi, who replaced predecessor Yusuke Adachi, also a Japanese national, was selected from a shortlist of candidates introduced by the Japan Football Federation (JFF).
The JFF and VFF have developed a very close relationship over the past several years.
Takeshi's contract with the VFF will last for one year from June 1.
Takeshi's résumé includes nearly three decades of experience working with Japanese youth and adult football teams.
He also holds a PRO Coach license.
Prior to coaching, the now 63-year-old Takeshi was considered a big name as a player in the Japanese football scene.
In 1993, Takeshi made the jump from playing to coaching. He has since helmed several football teams in the Ishikawa area, as well as the Kanazawa Sakuragaoka High School team.
His career also includes a stint as technical advisor to the Zweigen Kanazawa club, which played in the J-League from 2006 to 2010.
He has also trained some of Japan's national team coaches for JFF A-, B-, and C-level courses.
Speaking at a welcoming ceremony at the VFF headquarters in Hanoi on Thursday, Takeshi said he was very excited about the new position and hopes to contribute to the promotion of Vietnamese football, adding that systematic training is integral toward Vietnam's goal of achieving success in Asia and that training young footballers will help bring Vietnam's national football teams to new heights.
In terms of his relationship with Vietnam’s national team head coach Philippe Troussier, Takeshi said the two have only met once, but he expects to foster a closer relationship after he moves into a house next door to Troussier’s in an area dedicated to experts on the premises of the VFF headquarters in Hanoi.
VFF vice-president Tran Anh Tu, who spoke at the ceremony, said that the addition of Takeshi to the VFF family is expected to help the country make great strides in the global football arena.
Koshida Takeshi was born on October 19, 1960 in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan.
