Hundreds of Citi volunteers joined a tree-planting campaign at Nam Cat Tien National Park in Dong Nai province and Phu Ninh Primary School in Phu Tho province, with more than 1,500 trees planted in total. The campaign aims to support the Vietnamese government's project of growing one billion trees in the next five years.
"Every year since 2006, Citi employees serve the communities that they work in through Community Day events in the month of June. This year we planted trees on a large scale supporting the Vietnamese government's 1-billion-tree initiative, aligned with Citi's focus on ESG. Our tree planting campaign brought Citi volunteers and communities together to form a social movement for environment protection," said Ramachandran A.S., Citi Vietnam country officer.
The blood donation programmes were half-day events held in cooperation with the the Ho Chi Minh City Humanitarian Blood Donation Centre of the Red Cross and the National Hospital of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi. Citi volunteers came to the donation centre and the hospital to donate blood under the supervision of doctors and nurses.
"The programme aims to create wider awareness of the vital role of blood transfusion in saving lives and assisting the recovery of patients. We are confident more Citi staff will become regular voluntary blood donors in the future and further support their local communities," said Ramachandran.
Traditionally, the Global Community Day is celebrated through in-person events, rolling up sleeves and engaging in various service activities. Due to the global pandemic, Citi also reimagined ways to give back by organising more virtual activities.
Citi Vietnam is also cooperating with Ho Chi Minh City Banking University to provide online career counseling, youth mentorship, and resume-building advice virtually for students.
