He made the best performance of the day to beat host athlete Phan Thế Gia Hiển who earned 18.8 points for silver, while Cambodian Chanbory Choeun bagged the bronze with 18.45 points.
Vietnamese athletes Nguyễn Chế Thành, Lê Hoàng Phong and Trần Ngọc Thuý Vi earned a gold in the trio event at Hà Nội's Quần Ngựa Sports Centre on Saturday.
The host trio were awarded 20.478 points from the competition's jury board for the top medal.
Cambodian Sokhor Has, Sreypov Mo and Bunthoeun Trorn completed their performance with 19.3 points for silver, while Yupawan Poosanapong, Irada Pantao and Supatsorn Watcharaporn bagged bronze for Thailand with 17.588 points. — VNS
