Accordingly, it will coordinate with the LIGHT Community Health Development Institute and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women to launch a campaign entitled 'For the smiles of women' on March 6.
The launch event is being held in response to the theme of International Women’s Day 2021 – "Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world". It aims to celebrate the tremendous efforts by Vietnamese women in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic as well as facilitating national development and prosperity.
The campaign will be followed by an awards ceremony for the Kovalevskaya Award 2020 on March 5 in Hanoi, which has been held annually to honour female scientists with excellent achievements in research and in applying science in life, bringing benefits to different fields including the economy, society and culture.
Over the past 35 years, the award has been presented to 20 organisations and 49 individuals in various fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, agriculture, medicine and information technology.
A forum on 'Promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs) from a gender equality perspective” will take place on the morning of March 10, reaffirming Vietnam's commitments to actualising its SDGs and gender equality.
The union will launch two One-stop Service Offices (OSSO) in Can Tho and Hau Giang on March 3 and 5 respectively to provide free-of-charge support for returnee women migrant workers in these localities in areas such as healthcare, legal issues, education, vocational training, and childcare.
On the occasion, the Vietnamese Women’s Museum will receive photos, documents and objects donated by 24 individuals including photojournalists, designers, and collectors from home and abroad.
Prominent among these are 358 photos featuring the daily lives of Vietnamese women, taken by photojournalist Dinh Quang Thanh from the Vietnam News Agency, and the daily utensils, farm tools and equipment of ethnic minority groups in the northern mountainous and Central Highland regions donated by US collector Mark Rapopost.
