A 26-year-old man has been detained under the Mental Health Act after an incident at the Manchester Arndale.
Police were called to reports of a man with a knife at the shopping centre just before 9pm last night.
Members of the public tried to detain the man after he picked up a cutlery set and made threats.
The incident happened at the Nando’s restaurant in the shopping centre, the Manchester Evening News reports.
A woman suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene.
Today, a statement has confirmed a man arrested on suspicion of affray has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Several emergency response vehicles were filmed on social media outside the shopping centre as the building was evacuated.
Photos and video footage taken at the scene on Friday night showed armed police at entrances to the centre.
Arndale staff were also said to be assisting police in keeping the area clear.
North West Ambulance Service said crews were called to the scene at around 9pm, but a spokesman also confirmed there were no casualties or patients taken to hospital.
Trams through Exchange Square were also halted.
A statement from Greater Manchester Police released tonight says: “Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident at Manchester Arndale shopping centre last night.
“Shortly before 8.55pm on Friday 18 October 2019, police were called to reports of a man with a knife at the shopping centre.
“A large emergency response was deployed to ensure the safety of everyone in the local area.
“A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray. He has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.
“A woman suffered a minor injury during this incident and was treated at the scene. No other injuries have been reported.
“There will be an increased police presence around the shopping centre in the coming days to provide reassurance to the community.”
A Nando’s spokesperson: “We can confirm there was an incident at Nando’s Manchester Arndale Centre on Friday night.
“We are assisting the Police with their investigation and are unable to give any more information at this time.”
The Friday night alert came a week after five people suffered stab injuries in an incident involving a man with a knife at the Arndale Centre last Friday morning.
A man was later detained under the Mental Health Act.
