The squad finished bottom of Group C with only one point after three matches. Amirhossein Azizi and Aria Barzegar scored two goals for Iran in the first 21 minutes after the whistle. Things went from bad to worse for Vietnam, as on 31 minutes Vu Tien Long was sent off. With more players in the field, Iran found the net three more times with two goals from Amin Doustali and another one from Azizi. However, Iran, runners-up of the previous tournament in 2016, were still ousted as India and Indonesia both qualified for the next round after a 0-0 draw.
