* ASOSAI 14: Delegates share experience in environmental audit * Vietnam’s Auditor General becomes ASOSAI Chairman At the beginning of the closing session of ASOSAI 14 on Saturday, the participants devoted a minute of silence to remember late Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, who passed away due to illness in Hanoi on September 21. Delegates agreed to issue the “Hanoi Declaration”, aiming to transmit the most important messages of ASOSAI 14, and the seventh ASOSAI symposium themed “Environmental auditing for sustainable development”. The declaration proposes the promotion of knowledge sharing in the ASOSAI community, in parallel with the capacity building activities for the member supreme audit institutions (SAIs) in the field of environmental auditing for sustainable development, while calling for the realisation of sustainable development goals and the handling of the global environmental challenge. The declaration affirms the desire to achieve economic growth in harmony with sustainable development through a number of measures, such as sharing knowledge and experience, disseminating standards and guidelines on environmental auditing, organising intensive training courses on environmental auditing, encouraging the implementation of joint audits between the member SAIs, developing a regional report on environmental auditing, issuing regulations on environmental auditing to a create legal basis for the member SAIs and strengthening cooperation with external organisations.
