OLYMPIC champion Peppe Femling was rushed to hospital after impaling himself with his own ski pole in a shocking freak accident during training.
The biathlon relay gold medallist, 26, was preparing for a roller-ski event when he was was forced to jump into a ditch to avoid crashing into a car.
But as he fell to the ground one of his ski poles pierced his right leg and became stuck, it is reported.
The Swede was training in Lysebotn, Norway when the pole entered through his calf and came out of his leg by his shin, just above the ankle.
Femling was treated by a medicine student named Simen Sveen, who was also competing in the training race on Thursday, before a helicopter arrived to take him to hospital.
The gold medallist is making the early stages of his recovery and posted a video to social media to update fans on his progress so far.

In the post, Femling can be seen walking in hospital with a protective bandage around his right leg.
He added on social media: “I would like to thank everyone for the wishes, and a special thank-you to Simen Sveen, the medical student who was the first person to arrive at the scene and he calmed me down the whole time.
“He was with me until the helicopter arrived and carried on competing (in the training race), finishing third.”
Femling had previously posted a thumbs-up selfie from the hospital, captioning that the pole was still stuck in his leg at the time of the photo.
