Hanoi (VNA) – Party and National Assembly leaders joined peoplenationwide in donating money to buy relief for victims of storm Doksuri in thecentral region.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, former Party GeneralSecretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh, and staff of the Party CentralCommittee’s Office contributed over 400 million VND (17,600 USD) to the fund onSeptember 20.
The same day, the trade union of the National Assembly (NA) Office also launcheda fund raising campaign for storm-hit localities. NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi KimNgan and many officials from the NA Office have responded to the campaign.
The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) also called on its officialsand labourers nationwide to support storm victims.
Nearly 100 million VND (4,400 USD) was raised from the VGCL’s staff on the daythe call was issued.
VGCL Standing Vice Chairman Tran Thanh Hai also launched a text messagecampaign to support storm affected people. By texting “BL” to 1407, anindividual can donate 20,000 VND to residents in storm-hit localities.
Doksuri, the strongest storm hitting Vietnam in many years, claimed nine livesand left four missing and 112 injured, according to reports from affectedlocalities by 10pm on September 16.
The typhoon destroyed 1,185 houses, blew away roofs of 152,599 houses, andsubmerged 10,923 others. It also inundated 4,473ha of rice and 8,277ha of othercrops, affected 16,108ha of aquatic farming, and ruined 10km of nationalhighways and 17.9km of local roads.-VNA
