A delegation from Ho Chi Minh city led by Huynh Cach Mang, Deputy Chairman of the city People’s Committee, on April 20th visited cadres, soldiers and people working and living on Big Spratly island belonging to the Spratly archipelago.
The delegation burned incense to commemorate heroic martyrs, President Ho Chi Minh; and planted commemorative trees on the island.
On behalf of the delegation, Huynh Cach Mang presented Big Spratly island VND14 billion to assist the building of Party organizations and unions on the island, while providing soldiers and people on the island essential food, medicine, fertilizer, seedlings, sports equipment, TV and other recreational devices worth nearly VND1 billion./.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Le Hoang Quan handed over an office building as a gift to authorities of the Lao province of Houaphan on May 21. Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavad Lengsavath along with many senior officials attended the event. The Standing Board of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee has decided to present insignias to 2,237 Party members. The decision aims to mark the 71st year of the August Revolution (August 19th) and the National Day (September 2nd). Vietnam's southern economic hub - Ho Chi Minh City attracted 477 new foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in 2013 with a total registered capital of 1.05 billion USD, up 9.4 percent and 76.72 percent compared to the same period last year, respectively. The Ho Chi Minh city Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin has recently inaugurated the construction of a centre for treating, giving vocational training and rehabilitation for Agent Orange victims in Hoc Mon district. Known as Orange Village, the project will be built on an area of 49,000 square metres with a total capital of over VND100 billion. Ho Chi Minh City plans to spend VND36 trillion (US$2 billion) on transport projects this year as the government considers boosting construction spending to stimulate economic growth. The money will be spent on 37 projects, including a new subway line, an underground car park with 2,700 spaces, and highway extensions, Nguyen Huu Chanh, head of planning and investment at the city's Department of Transport, said by phone Thursday.
