The course “transferring Phacoemulsification technology” is being conducted by IAO members for 16 trainees from Hanoi, Vung Tau, Lang Son, Ninh Binh, Bac Giang, Yen Bai and Ho Chi Minh City from June 29 to July 11. It is a GCSF and IAO effort to provide healthcare and humanitarian support in ophthalmologic treatment in Vietnam. The project is also under the framework of a programme that the IAO has implemented in the US and Vietnam to develop eye care and blindness prevention services.
Two months after taking part in a training course at the Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology, leading US and Vietnamese eye experts will train and transfer phacoemulsification technology in eye treatment.
Marcia Selva, director of the Ophthalmology Department of NorthShore University said at the opening ceremony of the training course that it will help Vietnamese eye doctors improve their ability to provide more effective treatment for cataracts, especially for patients in remote and mountainous areas.
