HBSO to kick off New Year concert
The HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will launch a New Year concert at the Opera House on January 8.
Directed by talented conductor Le Phi Phi, the performance will consist of excerpts from famous operas which Phi describes as pearls of the world’s musical history.
Pham Duyen Huyen will play aria “Hamanera” from Carmen, the charming heroine in the opera Carmen by composer Georges Bizet, one of the best operas of all time. Excerpt “March and Chorus” from Act 4 of the opera Carmen will show the power of voice in the atmosphere of the crowd eager to welcome the arrival of the heroes, the Spanish bull gladiators.
The bright aria for tenor “Nessun Dorma” from Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot, one of the works associated with Italian opera legend Luciano Pavarotti, will be performed by tenor Pham Trang.
Artists Phan Huu Trung Kiet and Nguyen Thu Huong will stage the immensely popular duet “Brindisi” from the opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi.
Talented Korean soprano Cho Hae Ryong will perform a beautiful waltz from the opera Romeo and Juliet by French composer Charles Gounod as well as the Annen Polka by German composer Johann Strauss.
Soprano Pham Khanh Ngoc, who recently won second prize at the ASEAN Vocal contest in Singapore, will stage “Voices of Spring Waltz” from Johann Strauss II.
The concert will also feature excerpts for the choir and the symphony from the operas Nabucco, Aida, La Traviata from Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, who combined Romanticism and Nationalism in his operas. Other excerpts are from operas by Richard Wagner, Pietro Mascagni, Franz von Suppé, and Mikhail Glinka.
