Duckshin Housing, South Korea’s leading construction and engineering company, is planning to invest in a deck plate manufacturing plant in the country as its second Asean production to support the booming construction industry in the country and the region.
Duckshin revealed this investment plan at the Philippine Contractors Association (PCA) show at the SMX where it showcased for the first time the company’s latest innovation in construction technology.
“We are planning to establish a manufacturing plant here next year,” Duckshin’s corporate communications officer Ja-Yong Koo told reporters in an interview at its pavilion.
According to Koo, Duckshin Housing President Myung-Hwan Kim was scheduled to come over the weekend to visit possible plant sites.
Duckshin has been conducting market surveys to support the establishment of a local branch in the Philippines to increase its market presence.
Koo did not reveal the scale and investment for the planned Philippine manufacturing project, but said its Vietnam plant, which just opened last month, has production capacity of 1.5 million square meters annually.
According to Koo, Duckshin’s plan to set up a manufacturing operation here was fueled by the strong construction sector and its proximity to the Philippines.
The Philippine construction market has grown by more than 10 percent annually over the past five years.
Duskshin’s expansion in the Philippines was also in anticipation of President Rodrigo Duterte’s thrust to proceed with construction of the government’s various infrastructure projects.
Deck plate construction innovation, which is still new in the Southeast Asian market, is a building material used during construction for buildings, large high-rise, commercial and industrial structures and bridges. It is used as bottom formwork when placing concrete.
A deck plate can be customized to fit a structural design at reduced cost, bigger workload capacity and enhanced safety. It also maximizes versatility and can be applied to a wide variety of structures, such as steel and reinforced concrete.
