Many Vietnam news websites disrupted Van Ly By Van Ly – The Saigon Times Daily HANOI – Many news websites operated by Vietnam Communications Corporation (VCCorp) like Kenh14.vn, Gamek.vn, Genk.vn, CafeF.vn and dantri.com.vn were disrupted and inaccessible on October 13. According to network security experts, it is likely that the servers of the websites were hit by a distributed denial-of-service (DDos) hacker attack which is known as an attempt to make an online service unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from multiple sources. Leaders of VVCorp were not available for comment on October 13. However, a source said VCCorp informed its employees that the servers of the websites encountered a technical fault and the company was striving to fix it. Some of the websites were back to normal last night. Reality showed that news websites and online newspapers often try to conceal cases related to hacker attacks for fear of having their reputation hurt. They only would seek help from network security agencies, including the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team, when problems get out of control. The team recommended enterprises ask for its assistance as soon as problems occur. In addition, enterprises are advised to make careful preparations in case of hacker attacks and have solutions to deal with these problems.
