Ha Noi’s tourism sector has recorded impressive growth in the first six months of 2016 according to a summary report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan in the first six months of 2016 and plans for the remaining six months of this year released by the Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee. Ha Noi welcomed international visitors from 192 countries and territories around the world, including those from potential markets such as countries in Western Europe, Northeast Asia and North America, as well as Australia. The number of tourists to Ha Noi have increased at an average of over 10% per year. Of this figure, international tourists to the city were found to increase at an average of 14% per year. In the first six months of 2016, the number international visitors to Ha Noi registered to stay overnight reached 1.5 million, up 39.3% compared to the same period last year. Around 80% of the figure travelled to Ha Noi for tourism; 20% visitors for other reasons. During the first six months of the year, Ha Noi’s tourism sector earned a total revenue of VND55 trillion. Especially, total revenues from tourists in June, 2016 is estimated at VND4.5 trillion, up 15.6% over the same period in 2015. In order to further develop its tourism industry, Ha Noi has recently began focusing on promoting its more popular sites and improving the quality of tourism products and events.
