Blizzard Entertainment’s first ever shooter has been out for a little over a week now, and all around the internet people are posting their best Plays of the Game to show off their well-timed ultimates, killstreaks and that one time you picked Bastion and sat in a corner killing the enemy team over and over.
If you’re on consoles you have a handy record function built into your console from the get-go, allowing you to record and export your plays to the internet. PC gamers can do this as well, but they need the help of a third-party application like Shadowplay, Play.tv or Fraps to export their plays. Luckily, game director Jeff Kaplan posted on the official Overwatch forums that the team is currently looking into allowing players to export their plays.
The game will temporarily archive 5 highlights from your last play session. Playing only one game will only result in one highlight. Highlights are not currently saved if you close the game and come back. Our hope (and what we’re working toward) is to allow players to save highlights or export them to a video format someday.
So hang in tight! Soon™ you will be able to easily share your plays on PC.
In other news, a post on the official Overwatch forums by principal designer Geoff Goodman responded to a plea from the community to tune McCree since many people feel he’s a bit too powerful for comfort.
I’ve been watching McCree carefully since we’ve released. McCree’s flashbang plays an important role in being a strong option against very fast/agile teams (tracers/genjis/etc). It is also a nice tool to prevent close range devastating abilities and ultimates such as Reaper’s Death Blossom.
That said, its probably a bit too good at dealing damage to higher health targets such as Tanks and barriers. I don’t have any concrete changes yet, but I’m going to be testing some things internally to see how he plays.
For those wondering, he followed up saying that he thought it was the damage dealing combo with his Fan the Hammer ability that was too strong and that ability was more likely to see tweaks then his flashbang.
Overwatch came out on May 24 and has since garnered a ton of positive reviews, with reviewers praising the wide array of unique heroes, fast-paced combat and art style. You can read our review here.
Glad to see that Blizzard is already working hard on new features for the game. It’s been a really fun first week and I’ve taken to the game in a way I didn’t expect since the beta sort of left me cold. After the first week and about 19 hours of playtime, I can honestly say that this is one of the most fun games I’ve played in ages and I can’t wait to see what Blizzard can do with the game in the future.
