Hoang Minh The death toll for Typhoon Kalmaegi has risen to 13, according to updates by the National Committee for Search and Rescue on Thursday. Fifteen people were also injured by the storm which slammed into the northern Vietnamese coast on Tuesday night, according to the committee. The casualties included two newborn babies and a four-year-old boy. Lang Son Province reported the highest number of deaths, with eight people killed in landslides and flash floods. Two deaths caused by electrocution, which happened during torrential rains, were reported in Hanoi. Thai Nguyen, Ha Giang and Nghe An provinces reported one death caused by flooding, each. According to the committee, torrential rains and strong winds also collapsed 29 houses and blew off the roofs of more than 1,700 others. More than 50,000 hectares of rice paddies and other agricultural land were damaged.
